Amy Celestina Ndione

Celestina

Visual Artist

Born in 1988, Amy Celestina Ndione lives and works in Dakar, Senegal. A graduate of the National School of Arts in Dakar, she develops a hybrid pictorial practice that reinterprets collage as an expressive medium. Through an assemblage of symbols and cut-out words that are recomposed, her work questions the codes that shape the meanings conveyed by socio-political communications and representations. A recurring signature in her work, the simplified sheep’s head explores the boundaries between civilization and the animal realm, the individual and the collective. The artist examines the forces and energies generated by crowds and societies, working around the idea of connection across time and space. From one work to another, the thread emerges as a symbol of continuous contact between ever-evolving civilizations. Her works have been presented in several residencies and exhibitions across Africa and Europe. She notably exhibited with the Senegal Pavilion at the Dakar Biennale in 2024 and received the First Prize at the International Painting Encounters of Ouagadougou (RIPO). Her creations are now part of prestigious collections, including those of the Montresso* Foundation in Marrakech and the Museum of Black Civilizations in Dakar.
